CircuBAT’s project manager Prof. Dr. Andrea Vezzini presented the Innosuisse flagship project at this year’s INOBAT Battery Forum. At its fourth edition, lithium-ion batteries for electromobility were the focus of the expert presentations. In his presentation, Andrea Vezzini showed the urgency of developing a circular model for the used batteries from electric vehicles: Experts assume that in 2035, about 250,000 of these batteries, or about 125,000 tons, will have accumulated in Europe. In order to reuse and recycle lithium-ion batteries used for mobility purposes, the CircuBAT research project focuses on finding solutions that boost sustainability in all phases of a lithium-ion battery’s life cycle.
On behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), INOBAT is responsible for the collection, administration and use of the advance disposal fee that consumers pay with the purchase price of batteries and accumulators.
